Cardiovascular disease (including heart disease, stroke, heart failure and congenital heart disease) cause more than 33% of all deaths in the UK, accounting for around 200,000 deaths each year.
Heart disease, by itself, is the UK's biggest killer and the most common cause of premature death in the UK. 20% of men and 14% of women die from heart disease. That's around 94,000 deaths in the UK each year; over 250 every day.
Most deaths from heart disease are caused by a heart attack. Every six minutes someone dies of a heart attack in the UK. One in three people who have a heart attack die before reaching hospital.
Nick is raising money for the BHS to help them towards their goal of helping to stop people dying prematurely from cardiovascular disease.
