How to use Goals to Achieve Results..

Exercise is just like anything else in life, you need to have a target to aim for in order to plan your journey to reach it.  Ask yourself, what am I trying to achieve?  If you can clearly define your goal you can then plan the actions you need to take to reach it.

Once you have a plan of what you need to do, you can then determine how you are going to schedule these actions into your months, weeks and days.  If you have a set of specific actions that are then transferred into your diary/calendar, you are much more likely to stick to the plan and achieve the results you desire.

It sounds simple and it really is, the hard bit is doing it.  The biggest challenge anyone faces is making the plan a reality.  Getting away from your desk on time, or setting the alarm an hour earlier enabling you to exercise before work is tough.  However, the only way to achieve your goal is to make it happen.

Start by making a flexible plan.  Rather than having sessions scheduled in for certain days just plan to do say three exercise sessions every week for two months.  These sessions could be on three consecutive days or one midweek and the other two over the weekend.  The key here is to complete the three sessions every week for two months.

At the start of each week, or at some point prior to the beginning of the week, when you are in a position to make a detailed plan, look at your targets for the coming week and schedule in appointments for your workouts.

Once you form this habit it will then be easier to increase either the number of sessions per week or increase the rigidity of when you perform the sessions.  In this way exercise becomes a part of your life, something you want to do rather than something you must do.  This will of course make achieving your goals much easier as the journey to your finish line becomes woven in to your life as part of your weekly routine and not something you have to think consciously about and force yourself to do every time.
